Après le mois de septembre, il ne sera plus temps de changer les
réglages de cette version dite "ancienne physique".
RAPPEL
======
En vue du rapport AR5 du GIEC et des prochaines simulations CMIP5 avec
le modèle couplé de l'IPSL IPSLCM, LMDZ sera décliné avec :
- deux physiques ("AR4" et "nouvelle physique"),
- deux résolutions horizontales : 96x95 et 144x143
soit 3,75°x1,875° et 2,5°x1,27°,
- une nouvelle grille verticale à 39 niveaux avec une élévation
du plafond du modèle dans la stratosphère et une première couche
vers 30 m.
C'est la version "ancienne physique" ou "physique AR4" qui sera figée en
septembre.
La version "nouvelle physique" va rester en rodage encore quelques mois.
Parmi les évolutions notables ces dernières semaines :
- passage au calendrier vrai (ou 365 jours pour les simulations
CMIP),
- lecture des forçages aérosols et ozone (en cours de test),
- ajustement de la "couche éponge", de la discrétisation verticale
et de la dissipation horizontale pour la version à 39 niveaux.

... that will be used for the IPCC simulations. We are currently
adjusting the 96x95x39 configuration of LMDZ that will be used in the
IPSLCM5 Earth System Model. The forced simulations are available as

This is your last chance to speak up about this configuration as it will
be frozen this coming september.
REMINDER
========
Characteristics of the LMDZ model that will be used in the IPSL Earth
System model, IPSLCM5, for the upcoming CMIP5 simulations to be used in
the next IPCC report:
- the use of two physical packages: AR4 and "new physics",
- the use of two horizontal resolutions: 96x95 (3,75°x1,875°) and
144x143 (2,5°x1,27°),
- a new vertical discretization using 39 levels, the top levels
reaching the stratosphere and a first level at about 30m.
The configuration to be frozen in september will be the one using the
AR4 physics package.
The "new physics" configuration will be tested further over the next few
months.
Some notable evolutions of the code over the past few weeks:
- a realistic calendar has been introduced (a 365-day year will be
used for the CMIP experiments),
- new forcings from aerosols and ozone (under validation),
- adjustments to the "sponge layer", the vertical discretization and
the horizontal dissipation in the 39-vertical levels configuration.
