Formation LMDZ
============
30 personnes ont suivi la formation les 8 et 9 novembre : alternance d'exposés et de séances de TD.

Simulations CMIP5
==============
Dans le cadre de CMIP5, nous avons lancé plusieurs simulations du modèle couplé de l'IPSL utilisant LMDZ dans sa configuration "nouvelle physique" (configuration IPSLCM5B du modèle de l'IPSL). Il s'agit d'une simulation de contrôle préindustriel, d'une simulation historique, des deux scénarios RCP 4.5 et RCP 8.5 et de deux simulations "diagnostics" : l'une avec augmentation du CO2 de 1% par an et l'autre avec augmentation abrupte du CO2 de 4 fois sa valeur en 1850. Le prochain numéro de LMDZinfo rassembera des résumés d'articles soumis pour le numéro spécial de Climate Dynamics portant sur les simulations CMIP réalisées avec les modèles de l'IPSL et du CNRM.

Abandon du vectoriel
================
L'abandon du cacul vectoriel est à l'ordre du jour; à l'IDRIS c'est prévu pour la fin de l'année. La machine vectorielle BRODIE sera abandonnée au profit de la machine massivement parallèle VARGAS.

Here are the latest news concerning LMDZ.
LMDZ training session
================
30 persons attended the LMDZ training last November 8th and 9th, which consisted in a combination of talks and pratical sessions. All the documents produced for the training session (in french!) are available here: http://lmdz.lmd.jussieu.fr/le-projet-lmdz/formation/2011
The LMDZ website has also been updated for the occasion. It is not finalized but you can already take a look:

CMIP5 Simulations
==============
For the CMPI5 exercise, we have run a set of simulations using the IPSL coupled model with LMDZ using the
"new physics" (IPSLCM5B configuration of the IPSL model). Are included a pre-industrial control simulation, a historical simulation, scenarios RCP 4.5 and RCP 8.5 and two "diagnostic" runs: one with an increase of 1% per year of CO2 and the other with a sharp rise of CO2 to four times its 1850 value. The simulations are currently ongoing and may be followed here:

The next issue of LMDZinfo will gather extended summaries of articles submitted to the Climate Dynamics special issue focused on the CMIP simulations using the IPSL and CNRM models.

The end of vector computers
=====================
Vector processor machines are on the decline. At IDRIS that era will end with the year. The vector machine BRODIE will be terminated, leaving VARGAS, a strongly parallel machine, as the alternative to run on.
